Finally completed a very stressful nuzlocke of Pokemon White but so glad I did. Ive been meaning to do a proper hardcore nuzlocke of the BW games and finally got around to it after sequentially doing the previous gens and it was very fun. I honestly surprised myself with how well I did. For once i decided to take planning and strategy seriously so to my surprise before the final N fight i only had one death and that was a Munna i purposefully let die whilst trying to capture a wild Liepard.

Even though these games are notorious for being difficult thanks to the lack of encounter diversity, difficult trainers and difficult boss battles i found as long as i planned a well thought out winning strategy it always went well.

MVPs were:

Roggenrola - who eventually evolved into Gigalith. Honestly it was great to have a safe switch in so early on who could just tank hits. He helped a lot against Lenora and gave me peace of mind. If theres one thing i realised in these games theres a lot of heavy hitters so having a good physical wall is compulsory.

Lilligant - Quiver Dance is broken, she absolutely destroyed Clay with a combo of OwnTempo, QD, Sleep Powder, Synthesis and Giga Drain. Id have used her more if future boss fights didnt hate grass types

Excadrill - Im sure many people have already sung its praises. Hone Claws/SD and sweep. She bodied Iris and helped a bit with Grimsley. Sadly I lost her in the end to N's Carracosta as i forgot it had Sturdy

Krookodile - Again another physical beast. He destroyed Shauntal and Caitlin however one anooying thing is you cant reliably OHKO their lead mons Reuniclus and Cofagrigus as your often a few ATK points off from doing so which meant doing some risky moves to assure that. I pretty much saved this guy only for the E4 and Champion and he served his purpose well. As usual intimidate is completely broken and with clever switching you practically negate any damage from a lot of Ghetsis's mons. Sadly had to sack in the Ghetsis fight.

Cincinno - Another broken mon. With fast encore and charm you very easily dismantle the opponent. Whilst i had it in my Champion run i definitely felt i didnt use it to its full potential. Theres probably even better strats this mon could use with moves like Growth and Bullet seed which i was too lazy to look into.

Amoongus - this mon has terrorised every meta its been in with its great bulk, typing and movepool. What i didnt realise was Amoongus completely solves Marshal and foongus can be a guaranteed encounter. I feel BW is known for its scary fighting types with Bulky Throh and Sturdy Sawk. Amoongus just invalidates them and makes the Marshal fight ridiculously easy. Marshal tends to SE and since that avoids physical contact you dont worry about triggering guts with effect spore. Then just Spore, setup Toxic Spikes, Growth and sweep with Giga Drain. Super simple. Thankfully foongus learnt spore at level 50 so its the perfect mon for an E4 run. Black Sludge can be found with Trubbish/Garbodor so you can also have a version of leftovers with it.

Cofagrigus - Another awesome wall. With Will o Wisp and power split you can tame a lot of strong attackers. the only downside was lack of recovery as id usually run protect and one attacking move. And no leftovers available sucked. Mummy can work out great although i did make the mistake of swapping into Archeops and accidentally reactivating its monstrous attack. Sacked against Ghetsis but another great servant.

Jellicent - Honestly i had no plans for this guy initially i didnt even catch one until i realised its use and fortunately its guaranteed in Driftveil. But this guy truly came in clutch. Firstly hes the only mon which comfortably tanks a Reshiram Fusion Flare (25% damage), is unaffected by his other moves and can comfortably stall with Recover and Toxic. Add that cursed body can randomly screw over the opponent this guy is too good. it even has scald however i didnt have any luck with getting burns. But still its typing, bulk and moves helped my run tremendously and was truly a sleeper hit for me. It makes me glad i picked White as with Black id already have Krookodile and Cofagrigus to stall out Zekrom so would never have the thought to experience Jellicents awesomeness.

Closing thoughts

BW has so far been the best nuzlocke experience for me. The world feels significantly more unique than the other gens and you really have to think with how to use your limited options. Surprisingly out of all the fighting types available i didnt get to encounter a single one to catch. I also rarely used my starter cause it was Snivy and i wanted to play the game differently to normal. There was a point i used Beartic for the last gym as he was the only ice type i had. Which does lead on to a major complaint i have and thats with how many good tms are hidden behind the post game.

I understand BW have some of the best post game content but it does really suck how limited you feel when something simple like ice beam or hone claws arnt available until post E4. Strategies and pokemon id have liked to use dont get that oppurtunity because of their lack of movepool. A good example is Simipour who is a great speedy attacker. however all his good moves are hidden behind tms and after googling for 10 mintues (because theres no resource which conveniently tells you whats avaialable pre and post game) your left disappointed.

All in all still lots of fun. Ill jump onto gen 6 eventually but definitely need a break as this game was very taxing on me.
