If you read one post today, please let it be this one! ❤️🙏🏽
yo r/teenagers, just felt like venting this because it’s been hitting me lately how much one random decision changed my life.
i joined this sub back when i was 13, super awkward, skinny, zero confidence, feeling kinda lost yk the usual teenager basically. then at 14 i randomly decided to start lifting. saw some youtube videos, had nothing better to do, and thought fuck it, why not. no plan or goal except looking better and pulling girls if im being honest 😅
This is by far the best decision i ever took, no exaggeration.
Reminds me of some tiktok i saw a while back. Getting in the gym it’s like planting a garden hoping to attract butterflies. you put in the consistent work, water it every day, deal with the weeds… and yeah, sometimes the butterflies show up (the looks, chicks (or guys if your into that 🤷♂️), the confidence boost, random compliments). but even if they don’t, you still end up with a beautiful garden that’s all yours. that realization hits hard once you’ve been at it for a while.
working out with friends makes it 10x more fun too. you push each other, laugh at failed reps, celebrate small PRs together. just don’t act like a fool in the gym, respect the space, respect others, keep the noise reasonable. if you’re ever lost or don’t know what you’re doing, ask the biggest guy you see. i’m not kidding, 9/10 times they’re way nicer than most people and actually happy to help.
of course the gym comes with some setbacks. body dysmorphia is real some days you stare in the mirror feeling like you look worse even though you’re stronger. plateaus suck, you get humbled constantly, and yeah minor injuries or just feeling wiped out happens. but those moments are small compared to everything you gain.
if you’re reading this and thinking you should probably start… just go today. i promise, even 6 months from now you’ll look back and be so thankful you did. future you will thank you every single day.
lifting is good for literally everything. you get stronger, you look better, but the mental benefits are insane like better discipline that carries over to school and life, improved sleep, more stable mood, less pointless scrolling because you actually have real goals now. and the high protein to real food pipeline is very much real. once you start tracking protein you naturally start eating actual meals instead of surviving on snacks and energy drinks (LIKE I KNOW SOME OF YOU DO, seriously stop that its really not healthy), your whole diet improves without forcing it, and you just feel healthier overall.
i’m turning 18 soon and i’m not claiming i’m huge or anything, but i finally feel solid in my own skin. that started with one random gym day at 14.
if you’ve already started, drop how it’s going for you. if you’re thinking about it… just start. the garden doesn’t grow overnight, but it does grow if you keep showing up.
that’s my rant lol. If im being honest this post will get like no traction but if i help ANYONE itll be worth it. appreciate you reading ❤️💪
