Why are so many April Fools Day jokes unfunny?

Like, some are actually creative (looking at you Adult Swim). But most are either "haha fake announcement" or "haha i'm quitting YouTube Bye". And on Reddit, for some reason there is always at least one subreddit swap each year. Like, why are some people so uncreative that the only pranks they could tell are just lies?
