Guidance needed: Switching to IBR in hope of SAVE buyback
First time poster, long-time lurker.
I have $70,000 in loans with a average of 6% interest. I am in Save Forbearance and have 89 qualified PSLF payments before and 17 unqualified payments. If it wasn't for this SAVE debacle, I would hit 120 next september.
My job actually pays $125 dollars towards my loans and has been the entire Save forbearance (it technically comes out of my paycheck, so it qualifies as me paying). My original payment was $33 dollars and now it will be $600+.
Should I just bite the bullet, reduce my retirement contribution + all spending, and switch to IBR for the next 14 months until I hit 120 payments and try for buy back? Have they folks who have hit 120 while in SAVE forbearance been getting buy back offers or will I have to wait (and pay) the extra 17 months?
Thanks for any advice. I don't want to leave my twin daughters with this debt.
