How do you actually use BoardGameGeek?

I keep seeing BGG recommended as the go-to resource for everything board games, but honestly the site feels a bit overwhelming at first. Curious how people here actually use it:

  • Is it your main source for finding new games or do you rely more on Reddit/YouTube?
  • Do you trust the BGG ratings, or do you find them skewed toward heavy/complex games?
  • Anyone actually use the marketplace or trading features?
  • For party/social games (murder mystery nights, etc.) — does BGG even cover that well or is it more of a "serious gamer" platform?

Trying to figure out if it's worth investing time into building a profile there or if Reddit honestly gives better recommendations for what real people enjoy.
