Advice for dealing with period pain after 5 years of not having one??
Hey y’all, I (23F) haven’t had my period in 5 years because I have a Mirena IUD. Before I got my IUD, I was also on oral contraception, then one dose of Depo before getting the IUD (I was getting aura migraine and they recommended I switch ASAP). Before I got my IUD, my chronic illnesses (hEDS, POTS, migraine, hashimotos, fibromyalgia, GERD, hiatal hernia) were not even known about except for hemiplegic migraine, I had some symptoms but not to the severity they are now (I don’t work or go to school, but I’m working my way there). My periods were pretty dang bad. Excruciating cramps and headaches, heavy heavy flow, fatigue, nausea and vomiting. I suspect something reproductive could be going on. I would get ovulation cramps like 3-4 times a year. So I’m on year 5 of my IUD and am expecting my period to return this year. I’ve been getting the horrid cramps and GI issues every month at the beginning of the month like clockwork for the last 4 months. I’m very scared for my period to come back because I’m worried about the pain and I don’t even remember how I dealt with it to make my symptoms better, like birth control was really helpful for me. I want to relearn how to deal with the pain and find things that may actually help my pain. I’m using caffeine free midol now and my heating pad as well as some stick on heating pads from CVS. I want to see if I can truly handle the periods with my IUD bc I have another 2 years of BC protection and I don’t want to replace the IUD until I absolutely need to because the procedure was so bad for me. Can anyone please give me your best menstruation tips? Or anything to deal with the cramping besides heat because the heat in Florida summers is no joke and my POTS is already a nightmare? Any tips or anything please and thank you!!!!
TLDR give me your best period pointers because my period is coming back soon after 5 years and my pain is much worse now than it was 5 years ago
