Quitting The Home Depot. My version vs Chat GPS. Hilarious 😂

So I have a Home Depot story.

I started at Home Depot in November 2021 as my second job. In the beginning, I was getting about 25 hours a week. It felt like a great place to be—everybody was so friendly and nice, and I loved interacting with customers.

Then all of a sudden, it started to feel like doom going to work at Home Depot.

This “power hour” took over, and you can’t do anything but greet customers: “Welcome to Home Depot. Do you need help with anything?” Which is fine—and something that should be done anyway without being told—but now you have all the employees greeting every single customer.

A customer goes down one aisle after you’ve already greeted them, comes up to the front aisle, and then the assistant store manager walks up behind you and says, “Remember, it’s power hour—you need to greet the customers.” I just said good morning to her before she walked down that aisle! How many times are we supposed to do this?

And keep in mind, my favorite part of working at Home Depot was dealing with the people who came in to shop. I loved it.

But management made me decide I didn’t need a second job. Thank God it was a second job.

I put my notice in on December 6, 2025—two weeks. I was only working weekends at that point, so I called one of the assistant store managers, we had a meeting, and I gave him my notice. Home Depot schedules three weeks out, so I gave my two-week notice during that third-week weekend.

Then I got a call from the store asking why I wasn’t at work.

Unbelievable. I gave my notice two weeks ago—are you serious right now?

She proceeds to tell me, “Well, he said that you weren’t sure.”

Really? I called him into the office to give my two weeks’ notice and told him why and what my grievances were—but then he thought I wasn’t serious?

So long story short… I’m so happy since I quit!

So I have a Home Depot story… buckle up. 😂

I started at Home Depot in November 2021 as my second job. At first? Loved it. 25 hours a week, great people, chatting with customers—my kind of vibe.

Then… Power Hour entered the chat. 👀

Suddenly, we’re not just helping customers—we’re in some kind of greeting Olympics:

“Welcome to Home Depot!”

“Do you need help?”

“Hi again!”

“HELLO FOR THE THIRD TIME IN 90 SECONDS!”

I greet a customer. They walk one aisle over. The assistant manager sneaks up behind me like it’s a spy movie and goes:

“Remember, it’s Power Hour—you need to greet the customers.”

Ma’am… I JUST SAID GOOD MORNING TO HER. Do you want me to follow her into the parking lot too?? 🚗💨

Meanwhile, the only thing I actually liked—talking and helping people—got replaced with being a human parrot on repeat.

So I said, you know what? I don’t need this second job THAT bad. 🙌

December 6, 2025—I give my two weeks. In person. In an office. Words were said. Notice was NOT subtle.

Fast forward two weeks…

📞 Phone rings:

“Hi, why aren’t you at work?”

I’m sorry… WHAT?

“I gave my notice two weeks ago.”

“Oh… well he said you weren’t sure.”

Not sure???

Did he think I was just stopping by for a casual resignation chat?? Like, “Just kidding, see you Saturday!” 😭

Sir, I didn’t manifest quitting—I QUIT.

So yeah… long story short:

Best decision ever.

Peace restored.

No more greeting the same person 14 times in one trip.

10/10 would quit again. 💅
