IBEW Local 40 applicant question

Hello, Im interested in applying to Local 40 since I just finished hvac trade school about a month ago. The problem I’m running into is, they open applications the same day I start my electrician program at my trade school. I really want to show up to my class and stay the whole day since it’s hour based. Class is 8am-2pm and the first day of application acceptance is 9am-5pm. From your guys’ experience in the Los Angeles area or any other densely populated city, how many applicants actually show up the first day? I’d hate to be up there in the 100+ position since I won’t be able to get there until later in the day around 2pm. Also thinking about leaving class about 30m into it, show up at 9, turn in my application and be back at school around 10am. Trying to avoid doing that since this electrician program has a really long waitlist and I’m afraid they might just drop me. Any info is appreciated.
