Movie Review!

Just saw it.

Context: Mario Galaxy is my favourite game of all time. I play it yearly. Sometimes twice. Mario is also my favourite game.

The first movie wasn’t my favourite but I loved a lot of it. Hurt by the music choices and Donkey Kong, in my opinion. I know, I know, hot take.

This movie was so much better than the first. Charming, straight forward, whimsical, with some genuinely amazing moments. I really enjoyed the pacing, the music, the characters, and the fun.

Bowser’s conflict and ultimate choice felt like they made sense. Peach was really awesome to watch. While it didn’t capture Galaxy perfectly, there was enough there to feel good about.

I get some of the criticism but it was just so colourful, fun, and engaging. I don’t think the pacing was a problem at all. It didn’t feel too fast, either, just some choices were wrapped up neatly that could have been explored … if you wanted?

I will say a certain character everyone is loving wasn’t really a good fit. Luckily he wasn’t in much. People seem to think he’s in a lot.

I also heard weird things about Yoshi that just don’t track. I don’t know what movie people were watching.
