Was James created by the Fireman to bring coolness to the world?

Season 3 (The Return)

For years I’ve been pondering what Twin Peaks is truly about, and after many sleepless nights and intense soul searching I’ve reached the ultimate conclusion: James Hurley is the key. The facade of Laura Palmer and Dale Cooper has long served as a clever misdirect to the true story of James Hurley and Special Agent Shelley Johnson. Here’s the evidence:

  1. Shelley tells us that James has ALWAYS been cool. She has come very far in her investigation, discovering that James’ coolness dates back further than recorded human history. This also explains why she dates Red, to experience the opposite of cool and recalibrate her senses.

  2. James is able to crush a no. 2 pencil to smithereens with one hand, demonstrating supernatural levels of strength.

  3. James alters and reshapes reality with his mind. When Laura tells him that Bobby killed a guy James instantly revises the incident so that it never happened. “Bobby never killed anybody.”

  4. The Giant can’t help but take immense pride in his work, which is why he leaves a signature in the form of James’ giant forehead.
