The best days are behind us (I'm afraid)

Good day! I want this post to be simultaneously a high compliment but also a slight mourning if I may. I want to start by saying, Radiohead has been one of the world greatest contributions to Music and I hold them in high esteem. Given this, I want to point out a shift I'm seeing in parts of A Moon Shaped Pool tour and the latest 2025 tour:

The "2025 Drift" we’re seeing isn't a creative evolution. it’s a systemic loss of Narrative Architecture. When the high-level logic and rhythmic precision of their masterpieces are traded for a "warm and muddy" vibe, the music isn't becoming "more authentic"-it’s suffering a loss of information. As much as I love their newfound ease and confidence, and you can only have joy for people who have found contentment, I think they've gotten far too comfortable. They're treating what used to be sonic landscapes as "vibes" rather than riveting narrative structures. A diamond isn't more human when it’s covered in dust; the "Crystalline Landscape" simply becomes opaque. For those who view these songs as "Gloriously Beautiful" systems of interlocking parts, the "looseness" feels like a category error. The music deserves its full resolution, and the audience deserves to experience a system firing at maximum capacity. This isn't about the past; it's about the Integrity of the Craft. If the original precision was the foundation, then "expanding the formula" requires more ferocity, not less. We should be pushing for a higher ceiling of complexity and rhythmic clarity, proving that the "Crystalline Standard" is a living, breathing necessity.

Again, I'm glad they're in a good mental space, but they've nearly completely lost the map.

Arpeggi in 2012 at most times (often low quality bootlegs and not soundboards - as soundboard are brilliant quality wise but too dry for how the music actually sounds in person) felt like a swirling beautiful meadow and took you out of your body and eventually, vigorously did so. It was an ASCENT!

Now it sounds like you're on lethargic train ride with some whiskey and it's lost nearly all of its luster. It goes nowhere, it has no splendor or wonder. Jonny seems to just be going through the motions.

Anyway, you can be happy for how great they are doing and how unburdened they are, while still mourning that they've become soft and lost their edge.

The sound is drowned out and muddy, Thom plays and sings lazily, they're playing like they don't care 'and maybe they don't. And Thom recently said "**** their expectations" meaning the fans - and that's fair - they've earned their relief. This criticism probably sounds like a 'work order'- But that doesn't mean something valuable wasn't lost in the process. They aren't hungry any more. They're just going through the motions on a wide lazy lake with no river banks, floating on air mattresses on a lazy lake - and it doesn't just result in stagnation, it's apathy and acedia, they have gotten worse in numerous ways.

They were stewards of a Cathedral that they're letting go a bit derelict like it's all a legacy unserious jam session. The magic is missing.

Taking themselves down a notch doesn't seem humble. It seems dishonest.

If they're so bored, why not transform the existing music into something new and interesting? It just seems like a waste.

The music is what matters at the end of the day. Maybe we just have to accept that the majesty is over. Otherwise they REALLY need a new "Why" because if their "Why" was survival, everything is gone.

For me, this isn't just a critique of a band; it’s a defense of a conviction. To see the masters treat the Narrative Architecture with so little care feels like a betrayal of the very 'Why' that gives music its purpose. I cannot 'un-see' the structure, and I refuse to accept the 'Anesthesia of Comfort' as a valid destination for it.

I hope this post is met with grace an understanding. I know some people may downplay this and tell themselves it's still there, but please, if you do, please do so with kindness and understanding. I think it is a high compliment, but because it is, the contrast is a bit of a double edged sword. I love this band and I mean no offense. Cheers!

Edit: For the vitriol in the replies, I'm not attacking anyone, I'm simply giving my point of view. Why can't people simply disagree or point out where I'm wrong instead of attacking me? Give rebuttal to my viewpoint, there's no needs to dung sling. I'm coming st this earnestly and with goodwill. If you disagree, just give reasons why. I'm not attacking Radiohead or this community whatsoever, I love Radiohead.

People often respond so combatively when there's cognitive dissonance or an ounce of truth there, either disagree with it, or acknowledge it. Calling people names and making accusations is a petty waste of time, but I guess that's often Reddit communities.
