Is chemical spraying effective?

Requesting community support

Moved into a property infested with bedbugs and didn’t know until a few weeks after we moved in.

I got an exterminator out to confirm the infestation and was told that due to the severity we’d need heat treatment. Had to refer the case back to our property managers who appointed their own exterminator who has sprayed the property instead of heat treatment. We’ve already had one session a couple of weeks ago and whilst I stopped getting bitten I’ve seen a number of adult (well fed) bugs in the past few days. We had our second spray treatment today but I’m worried the cycle of hatching and laying eggs won’t actually ever end and the stress of having to get ALL of our clothes washed and tumble dried each time we have the treatments is such a nuisance. I’ve had a second opinion from another impartial exterminator who is a friend of a colleague who also said that heat treatment is the most effective course of action and that spraying is unlikely to work.

Was it negligent of the property managers to not opt for the heat treatment and choosing the cheaper option? Will the treatment actually work and stop the infestation?

stressed and feeling very itchy!
