Do you think the show will start to address the ethical violations of the staff?
I want to start by saying that I really enjoy this show and as another person on the sub said, I think it will become a comfort watch for me in the future. My discussion question for the sub:
Do you think the show will start to address the ethical violations of the staff (rather than the unintended words, gestures, and poses of Russo)?
Or, is it the Lawrence-show thing of totally ignoring things that would be an ethical violation in real life (Ted Lasso's ex and their marriage therapist starting a relationship, Shrinking's therapists having their friends come in for sessions...)?
Ex:
- Professor texting with student, (S1E4, Russo & Tommy) - I'm back in college now and that's NOT a thing between teachers and students. Maybe he'd send a message via the Teams app, but I doubt Russo would have gotten an immediate response from Tommy via Teams. Students don't/shouldn't have their instructor's mobile numbers.
- Professor drinking & smoking weed with students, (S1E4, Russo & Tommy)
- Professor sleeping with student (S1E1, Archie). Walt said the 'sex scandal' on campus could only be treated by having Archie or Katie resign. One of those people was totally innocent! Walt seems to be seeking symbolic results, just to look like he is doing something.
- Grad student in a bathing suit in the hothouse with the dean (S1E4) nevermind that she's pregnant and shouldn't be in a sauna anyway...this seemed really inappropriate.
Or is that the satire? That the university brings Russo in for a committee hearing every time he slips in a completely unintended way (performative outrage) and does very little to prevent inappropriate relationships amongst their staff and students?
