I don't know anything about cars, looking for my first one, any advice?

Like the title says I'm completely clueless when it comes to cars, I honestly don't like them but it's become a necessity at this point. I live in Central America, near a mountain with some pavement and some dirt roads that get really bad when it rains so I'm looking for a car that can drive in difficult terrain but I'd prefer if it's automatic cause I also haven't learned to drive yet lol and I mean I guess that's easier to learn. Budget is on the lower end and I'm looking for a used car preferably from before 2010 cause I don't like the ones with screens and cameras. I've seen that around here most of my neighbors have CR-Vs and Hilux pick-ups. I don't like the newer gigantic cars tbh that seems so unnecessary, but I do need one that's like tall enough not get stuck here.

My only experience with a vehicle is I used to have a Honda Navi but yeah no that can barely reach my house with these horrible roads so I'm selling it.
