Witnessing violence

To summarise a long dream: I was out with a friend at a restaurant and this guy that I’ve lowkey been maladaptive daydreaming about walks in and sits down at a table with his date. Seems irrelevant (although nothing ever is) cause that sequence was short. One, two, skip a few…we’re outside the restaurant and hear screams. Look across the street and some guy slices a lady clean in half (vertical cut) with a zombie knife (like the ones roadmen use in the UK but a bit longer). He runs towards us and lots of people around me manage to escape but I get “stuck” (running really slowly like in every nightmare) hitting an uphill slope. He ends up catching up to me and starts slicing me in half and then I suddenly wake up.

This was one of the few times I’ve witnessed violence in a dream. I usually wake up before something traumatic happens to me but not when it’s someone else in the dream? Is it cause it’s a character that doesn’t exist in reality so it’s easier to digest?
