Will she finally stay away?

I (32M) had a 3-year relationship with my ex (28F). It was by far the deepest and most intense relationship either of us ever had. We had a very strong emotional bond, shared everything, and the physical/sexual connection was extremely strong.

The relationship was about 90–95% good, but when things went wrong, they went very wrong. The biggest issue: I want children in the future, she absolutely doesn’t. On top of that, she is very influenced by her friends and tends to doubt herself a lot, while I’m more direct and solution-focused.

She broke up with me in January in a very impulsive and harsh way (over text, put my stuff outside). Shortly after, she came back out of jealousy and missing me. We started seeing each other again for a while (including emotional connection and sex), but it was hidden from others.

During that time, she showed a lot of love (said she loved me, got jealous, wanted attention), but at the same time she spoke negatively about me to her friends and seemed very conflicted.

Eventually we had a final goodbye (about 2+ weeks ago). She was extremely emotional: crying, hugging me, saying she loves me, can’t let me go, that I’ll always be special to her — but also saying the situation gives her stress and that it has to stop.

Since then: no contact.

I saw her at the gym recently and she completely avoided me, didn’t even look at me, but did greet my friend. It felt very cold and confusing compared to how emotional she was just two weeks before.

Some additional context:

\- She admitted she “can’t let me go” but still chose distance

\- She has anxiety and tends to avoid under pressure

\- She is very influenced by her environment (friends/mother)

\- There were also trust issues and situations where she wasn’t fully honest

My questions:

  1. Is this typical avoidant behavior (strong emotions → sudden coldness/avoidance)?

  2. Does this sound like someone who is truly over it, or someone suppressing feelings?

  3. What are the chances she reaches out again after this kind of dynamic?

  4. Has anyone experienced a similar push-pull / intense breakup situation?

Trying to stay grounded and not overanalyze, but the switch from very emotional to completely avoidant in 2 weeks is confusing.

Appreciate any honest perspectives.
