401k Overcontribution Dilema

Retirement

I believe I overcontributed across 3 W2s in 2025 and I have been having an extremely hard time getting my 401k provider to provide an over contribution refund from last year.

Basically, I contributed to 3 different W2s - two of those were with a 401k and one was with a Simple IRA.

Amounts here:

  • 401k #1 - $6,034.40
  • 401k #2 - $17,465.60
  • Simple IRA - $346.90

Total - $23,846.90

Basically, my 401k provider is saying that because the $346 was on a Simple IRA, the annual IRS contribution limits for IRA plans are separate than those of 401k plans, so they would not include the amount from Simple when calculating my 2025 contribution total if that amount was entering into an IRA, and they are declining my request for over contribution.

1, is this correct or 2, is there any push back I can have with them? I was under the impression 401k and IRA fall into same bucket of total.
