It's Gross
A 14 year old kid made a LeBron like announcement that he would be attending Riordan High.
That is not a joke. Please tell me that HS players are not being paid too.
I am sick of seeing these social media announcements when a kid enters the portal. "I want to thank blah blah, and I will always cherish blah blah, but I have decided to continue my journey blah blah".
They should say "I had a mediocre year at the only school that really recruited me, but school B is offering me more money. I know I will never make this kind of money in pro ball, since I am not a NBA talent, so I have to take it now." I would respect that.
But don't give me that Riley loved USF. Bullshit. If he did, he wouldn't keep entering the portal. And if he was any good, and a real NBA talent, he would have played like it. Blaming the roster? Give me a break. The real talents take over no matter who their teammates are.
Cook? We knew what he would be. He average 1 ppg at Oregon in two years. The guy is completely lost on a college basketball court.
Little surprised by Barry, since he was here three years. But let's face it, he had a middling career at USF. Nobody USF fan will remember him in 2-3 years.
Smiley is a loss, but I saw that coming. USF was the only school that gave him a decent offer. Of course loyalty is meaningless to these kids.
Until they change the transfer rules, and allow one free transfer (with the second transfer requiring a one year sit out), this is what we will see every year.
And nobody talks about academics. Are there any rules about that? How can a kid go to four colleges and transfer those credits?
I miss the Caloiaros, the Rashad Greens, the Damien Cantrells, the Hakeem Wards, the Dior Lowhorns, the Bouyeas, the REAL Tyrone Riley, the Ferraris, Jiimbo Lulls, the Nate Renfros. Tough talented kids who would mop the floor with the TR4, Cooks and Diaz-Grahams of today.
