At a certain point does level matter?

My current level is 384. Yesterday as I was in a lobby with several levels 5 and 7 hundred I got to thinking is there any benefit to a level once you're past 2 hundred or it's just experience and a number? are there any actual perks? I think not but I wanted to ask you guys
