Adventure Club Strategy?

Are the team chests worth opening or just a currency sink?

I know they can provide rewards for the entire team, but it seems like it might be better just to use the event currency on progressing the event? I already know I'm avoiding the individual chests.

This is my first Adventure event so I'm trying to figure it out as I go.
