Is it normal to be doing it all?

First time mom here with a 5 month old and I’m starting to feel really resentful toward my husband and I don’t know if this is normal or if I need to seriously reset expectations.

He works a lot. Like genuinely a packed schedule most days. And I do appreciate that he’s providing for us and that we have the life we do because of it. I don’t want to take that for granted.

But I’m also up all night with the baby (exclusively breastfeeding), and then I’m basically “on” all day. There’s no real off switch for me. Even when he’s home, I still feel like the default parent.

Right now he mostly helps on Sundays, but even then he still has his own things like writing for work and taking time for himself. Meanwhile I don’t feel like I ever get a real break to reset.

I’m about to start gentle sleep training too, which I know is going to make me even more exhausted, and it’s making me realize how unsustainable this feels.

I guess I’m wondering:

Is this just what this stage is like, or should I be expecting more balance?

For those of you with partners who work long hours, what does help actually look like during the week? Are there specific tasks or time blocks your partner takes over that made a difference?

I don’t need everything to be 50/50, but I do feel like I need something more consistent so I don’t burn out.

Would really appreciate hearing what’s worked for others because I’m starting to feel pretty alone in this.
