ADMS 1010 Section V: Group project

Advice

As the title suggests, this is about a group project for ADMS 1010 (Section V with Troy Young). It’s a fully online course, and the final is a 5–7 min video worth 20% of our grade.

We were placed in groups of 6 around Jan 25, but 1 member dropped and another has been inactive all semester, so it’s basically a group of 4. The deadline is April 3.

I’ve been trying to get the group to start since early on, but most of the time I just got minimal responses (like “yeah we should start”) with no actual work. On March 3, I finally got some replies and made a WhatsApp group, but even there people barely engaged.

I shared the guidelines, got no response. Then I summarized the entire assignment to make it easier—only one person replied “sounds good.” I proposed a plan, set a Sunday deadline to decide on a main argument—no response.

On Monday, I came up with ideas myself and made a poll. Still no response until I tagged everyone; 2 people voted, but no discussion or progress after that. My last message (Monday afternoon) asking them to vote is still the last message in the chat.

I emailed the prof Monday evening. He replied today saying he emailed the group and told me to wait. When I asked what I should do in the meantime, he said it seems like they were responding (based on earlier “thumbs up” type messages), so he’s not sure what went wrong.

I have screenshots of everything (WhatsApp, eClass, emails). The assignment is 20% and due in less than 48 hours, and I genuinely don’t know what I’m supposed to do anymore. Any advice?

TL;DR:

Group project (20%) due in <48 hrs, but my group hasn’t actually worked. They only gave basic “yeah we’ll start” replies but no real input. I tried everything—shared guidelines, summarized work, made a plan, set deadlines, even created ideas + a poll. Almost no engagement.

Prof says “they were responding” and told me to wait, but there’s still no progress.

I have proof of everything and don’t know what I’m supposed to do now.
