Everything they explain about this cheating rumour makes no sense

Tennessee said on the pod that she was crying and panicking because of what people thought they were hearing... Surely in that situation you simply tell the internet what you were doing and why it sounded like that, to kill the rumour instantly. She also denied there being a guy's voice when there clearly was once. I don't get it at all
