18F and 19M – I can’t stop going back to him even though my parents hate us

Medium

Hey r/teenrelationships,

I’m 18 and I’ve been going through it with this guy for the past 6 months and I honestly don’t know what to do anymore.

We met at the beginning of the school year. We were in the same friend group and started talking every day. It very quickly turned into something more. By October we were basically dating but we kept it quiet at first because I knew my parents would freak out.

When they eventually found out, they lost it. They said he’s not good for me, that I’m too young to be this serious about someone, and that he’s going to distract me from getting into a good college. They made me break up with him and even took my phone for a week.

The problem is... I can't stay away from him. We've broken up "officially" three different times because of my parents, but we always end up talking again and getting back together in secret. Right now we're seeing each other but nobody can know. We barely text on our normal phones, we meet up when my parents think I'm at a friend's house or studying, and it's getting really stressful.

I think about him constantly. Even when I try to focus on school or hang out with my friends, he's on my mind. I've tried to move on so many times but it never sticks.

Part of me knows my parents might be right and this is getting too complicated, but the other part of me feels like he's the only person who really gets me.

I'm so confused and I feel kind of trapped. Has anyone else been in a situation where your parents hated the person you were dating but you couldn't let them go? What did you do?

Please be nice, I'm already stressed enough lol.

Thanks for any advice
