Can real event ocd feel like crippling guilt that comes in waves over long gaps of time even if it was something that happened 5 months ago?

I won't specify because comfessing is a compulsion. I had not been kind to a friend, joining in and making jokes against him in the group. He told me those jokes make him really upset because of his trauma relating to the content of the jokes. I hadn't specifically apologised when he told me to stop, and i even justified it by saying it was me trying to fit in with another friend. The jokes continued even after he asked me to stop, and i hadn't been aware that I was continuing to make those jokes, but i had been joining in with the same friend again. It came to him having to be blunt with me and tell me to stop, which he shpukdnt have had to do in the first place, which i feel terrible for. I immediately apologised and came up with a way with him on how he can let me know if anyone is saying something that makes him upset so I can say something to change the conversation for him.

It's been 5 months since then, and we've become best friends again, but i keep getting these waves of strong guilt that last for hours that feel crippling. He accepted my apology and has said multiple times to me that he is completely okay with me and everything is okay. I feel awful for continuing to apologise to him because it just brings it back up and also makes it look like im flipping the situation witout meaning to because he then feels he has to reasure me even though he was the one that got hurt. I feel genuinely terrible, and I've been on google for the past 3 hours, and I dont know what to do. I dont want to keep bothering him because he doesn't deserve that at all.

I just feel very hung up and blocked because the content of the jokes was quite literally one of the worst things you can say. I feel awful that I did this to him even though he says everything is good, and I also know that feeling this way is me essentially saying I dont accept his forgiveness, which is completely unfair. I dont know what to do, I dont feel like i deserve him or his forgiveness.
