AAMC CARS QPack1 #80

SpoilerQuestion 🤔🤔

Haven't seen this question asked in previous reddit posts so I wanted to ask about how to reason A over C? I could cross B and D quickly: B is out of scope nthg abt honoring losers/ winners in passage and D is distorted version of author's tone - he is not exagerrating rather explaining what he means.

I picked C, and in my defense, when they said to "lose is kind of death" I related it to the idea that once you die, there's really nthg, you can't lose! But I can see how this reasoning can be convoluted and unsupported. My question is what steps can I take to prevent that, where in the passage should I have been focused on, any keywords that would direct me to A?

Thanks!

The statement “to lose is a kind of death” is an example of the author’s emphasis on the:

A. extent of the emotional investment in sports.

B. importance of honoring losers as well as winners.

C. unacceptability of losing a sporting competition.

D. consequences of an exaggerated concern with sports.
