Manta Glide Builds

D&D 5e Revised/2024

The Simic Hydrid species has the Manta Glide trait option, which allows you to glide 2 feet for every 1 foot fallen (negating fall damage). Combined with teleportation directly upwards, you essentially double your travel distance. Misty Step or any similar feature allows you to travel upwards 30 feet then glide horizontally 60 feet. This functions with the Jump spell as well, but you will trigger opportunity attacks.

The most appealing build options include Archfey Warlocks, Moon Bards, Echo Knights, and Wildfire Druids. Archfey especially seems fun; taunting a melee enemy then moving 60 feet as a bonus action is so rude. Other options would be anyone with Misty Step, Jump, or Eldritch Knights. If you can reliably teleport or Jump, it gives you more mobility than most mounts could. For most melee characters you’d never be out of range, and ranged characters would never be in melee. The kiting potential here seems silly.

Is this feature worth building around? Is the extra movement excessive? If y’all have better ideas lemme know!
