Temperature Check on the draft? Let’s discuss.

Discussion

With New Orleans playing better and basically sealing our odds at a top 4 pick (combined with bucks odds) around 6th best, how are we feeling?

Let’s not forget about the Cleveland pick, either.

Who are your draft crashes? Or the people you’re irrationally high on?

I personally am irrationally high on Dailyn Swain. I think the shot is improving and will be workable at the NBA level. If Kuminga doesn’t come back cheap (12 mill or less, which is unlikely) then I’d to take Swain, either in a trade down scenario in the late lottery or trade up from the Cleveland pick.

He is a phenomenal slasher, good passer, and energetic player overall. He would come in and probably be the best slasher on the team from day 1.

JJ obviously is better than most in that area but he lacks wiggle. Kuminga lacks processing. Swain has the wiggle, processing, and athleticism. All the makings of a walking paint touch. He is what I want if we don’t get Dybantsa, which is looking likely at this point.

Quin is proving that you can have a good offense even with subpar spacing. You lean in on defense and ball movement and you can hang with anyone. So adding Swain to a roster that employs Dyson and likely Kuminga does not scare me. He’s a smart player and that’s what matters most in our offense.

Another guy who is growing on me is Aday Mara. Big, lumbering 7’3 but he can pass it, seems to be willing to take the occasional 3, and does all the big man things around the basket on both ends. Needs to get stronger and in better shape but he is a really nice compliment to OO in theory.

There are other guys I like but those two stand out, though neither fit in our projected draft range unfortunately, so unless Onsi and I see eye to eye, it’s unlikely we ever see them here. But both would be really fun, at least to me.
