Zurgo or Najeela B3
Hey everyone,
I have a question about building an aggro deck in EDH and would love some input from more experienced players.
Right now I mostly play graveyard-based decks and spellslinger strategies, and I’m looking to try something different — specifically aggro. My playgroup is around bracket 3, sometimes pushing towards 4.
I’m currently considering two commanders:
- Najeela, the Blade-Blossom ( Warrior Tribal, no combo)
- Zurgo Stormrender
My main questions are:
-
Which of these commanders is more fun to play in the long run (not just stronger)?
-
What would be the better approach to building the deck?
Since I don’t currently have a mana base that supports either option, I’m debating between:
- Buying the Zurgo precon and upgrading it over time
- Or building Najeela from scratch and gradually buying singles
My concern is that I don’t yet know if I’ll enjoy the aggro playstyle, so I’d prefer a more budget-friendly way to test it before fully committing.
I also thought about a hybrid approach and would like your opinion on this:
- Does it make sense to buy the Zurgo precon and temporarily run Najeela as the commander in a Mardu shell, then later upgrade into full 5-color?
- Or would it be better to just pick out the best individual cards from the precon and use them as singles in a future Najeela build?
Would you recommend starting with the precon and upgrading, or going straight into Najeela?
Thanks a lot for any advice!
