What should be my move from here for trading roles?
I’m currently a first year Econs student at a target uni in the UK, trying to pursue a career in macro trading. I have data analytics experience at a big accounting firm and networked my way into a role supporting a single manager in a small prop trading firm (mainly doing first-cut analysis and building systems to understand large amounts of data). I was able to get to the final round superday of a tier 1 quant firm (JS/CS/Opt/Jump/HRT) but got rejected in the end. Coming from a non-stem background, these quant roles are extremely out of reach and I think I was just insanely lucky to even get to the final round. I think it is too risky for me to put all my efforts into quant recruiting next cycle since I’ll most likely not even pass the CV screening stage given my degree, even though I’m confident that I have the ability. I’ll also be aiming for macro HFs next cycle like Bridgewater, DE Shaw, millennium but again, there’s too much variance in recruitment and a lot of luck is involved. That leaves me with SnT roles in banks, which I understand are great pipelines for macro roles in the future. My questions are how should I go about preparing for recruitment next cycle and how can I make full use of my summer break for this preparation? Any input will be greatly appreciated.
