Do I stay or do I leave
Edit: I am sorry if I offended anyone with the pictures from my deleted post. So I am posting again with no pictures because I am interested in opinions. Sorry for being a moron
So I have been working in this small company (arround 20 employees), as an Automation Engineer, for the last 6 months. This in my first engineering job.
My job is PLC programming with TIA Portal, new and existing projects that require mods, and with Eplan do some electrical schemes.
It’s important to say that only me and another person with 25+ years of experience work here as a PLC programmer.
Here is the thing: I love automation. And I love the job that I have. But when I came here, they new I was fresh out of college. I told them I used to work with CX Programmer in college and had 0 experience with Siemens.
Still, they gave me the job.
Not gonna lie, the first 3 months I felt a giant evolution. From not knowing anything to be comfortable navigating the software, to make the HMI and everything.
I work a lot on the field, traveling to clients and everything like that. Of course I do not develop software near as fast as my colleague, because he truly is a master at is craft.
Now, the last 3 months, I feel that I don’t do as many stupid mistakes, still do some but not nearly as much, but I feel that yes, I stagnated a bit.
Last week I went to talk with the owner of the company to ask him how it’s gonna be, because my contract expires next week.
He told me they would 100% give me a new contract, but that he is not that happy because he expected more from me, and I need to step up.
Mind you the last month, I was alone in the office as the sole PLC and Eplan worker at the office because both my colleagues have been operated.
I feel that I take my time to do the stuff, but I prefer to take my time and deliver something I am confident than rush it and risk something bad.
Plus, the owner of the company talks to everybody in a cordial way, but with me, not even good morning… only if he absolutely needs to give me a word he will do it…. I know I am the “new guy” I know that I don’t produce at full power yet.
But this kinda makes me uncomfortable, because when he interviewed me, he was all smiles and laughs…
I am not searching for anything yet, but I might start to, even if that means I would lose the amazing office ambient that we have. But I am starting to feel uncomfortable and that my work is not appreciated.
And I don’t know if this is the thing that will push me to out-do myself, or completely break my self confidence in what I do.
Thanks for the help in advance!
