Is it possible to take the SSD out of one laptop, and put it in another?
My HP OMEN 16 died the other week. The repair guy I took it to said something happened with the motherboard, and it’s cooked (literally. it gets too hot, apparently). He suggested I either look for a second-hand motherboard or just invest in a new laptop.
Luckily my next set of student maintenance loans are coming in soon, and as I reallyyy need a new computer for college work, I was thinking of investing in an Alienware 16 Aurora (I have made up my mind. I do not want anyone to try and convince me to buy anything else. This post isn’t about that.)
Now, I used my old laptop A LOT. It has quite a lot of stuff on there that I’d rather not lose (photos from my camera, game data, etc.). It does still turn on, but I highly doubt it’ll be able to run any games or do anything worthwhile after the repair guy’s diagnosis.
As for storage, my my options were:
- take out the whole SSD, buy an enclosure
- just use a USB, turn it on and quickly copy anything important I’d like to keep
But then it got me thinking. Can I just take out the SSD, put it in the new computer and double the storage space?
