The Strait of Hormuz is no longer just a shipping lane. It is a weapon. And the Gulf states just figured out they have been living with a gun to their head for 40 years.

The Saudi East-West pipeline — built in the 1980s after the Iran-Iraq tanker war — is now running at full capacity. 7 million barrels a day bypassing the strait entirely. In hindsight, one senior Gulf executive called it "a genius masterstroke."

Now every Gulf state is looking at the same map and drawing the same conclusion: they need a way out that Iran cannot touch.

The plans on the table are massive. Expand the East-West pipeline. Build new corridors through Iraq, Jordan, Turkey, Oman. Eventually a full network — a web of pipelines so redundant that no single chokepoint can hold the world's oil supply hostage.

The price tag: $5 billion minimum to replicate what Saudi already has. Multi-country routes running $15-20 billion. Years of construction. Enormous political complexity.

But here is the investment thesis hiding inside this story: Wars rewrite infrastructure maps permanently. The pipelines that get built in the next decade will move oil and gas for the next 50 years. 

The construction companies, the engineering firms, the port operators on the right side of this map are going to make extraordinary money.
