Any other newborns have an abnormal screening for thyroid?
I had my baby boy last week at 37+1. He is exactly one week old today. Today, his pediatricians office called me to let me know that his state metabolic screening results came in and that he tested abnormal for thyroid function (TSH/T4) and that further labs are needed to determine whether this is a false positive or transient/congenital hypothyroidism.
Is anyone else dealing with this or something similar? I am freaking out. I also have hypothyroidism and know a lot about it, but to think that my newborn may require lifelong meds scares me as a mama.
Obviously I am hoping it is a false positive. He was born early term and I've read that many results for this particular test are false positives.
Thanks, guys.
