FILM SYNTAX: The Language Was Always There

FILM SYNTAX: The Language Was Always There

Over the past five weeks, I’ve looked at four films — Citizen Kane, 2001: A Space Odyssey, Taxi Driver, and Apocalypse Now — not for what they say, but for how they are built.

Shot order.
Framing.
Duration.
Silence.
Repetition.

Each film is different.

The structure is not.

The same language runs through all of them — guiding attention, shaping emotion, and constructing meaning.

Most of the time, we don’t see it.
We feel it.

That is…film syntax.

If you start to notice it, films change.

Not because they are different —
But because you are seeing what was always there.

Film SYNTAX shows you how to see it.
