Attendance and Experience
- Friday vs. Saturday: Friday has become very busy in recent years, almost as busy as Saturday. It's often described as "the day to shop" and is less crowded, which might be ideal if you prefer a thinner crowd and a more relaxed experience. Saturday is the "big day" with more cosplayers and community presence, but it can be very crowded. "Since they added Friday to the Con and especially since making the hours longer, Fridays have become very busy."
- Cosplay and Community: Saturday is the better day if you want to experience the full cosplay and community vibe. Friday has fewer cosplayers since the fashion show and cosplay contest are not that night. "For me, Friday is for autographs, Saturday is for seeing cosplayers, and Sunday is for buying"
After Hours and Additional Events
- After Parties: There are official after-hours events, which can be found on the Planet Comicon website. "There's usually official events after closing posted on their website."
- Celebrity DJ: Elijah Wood is known to DJ at the Madrid during the event. "Elijah Wood is DJing at the Madrid"
Bag Policy and Security
- Bag Checks: The convention can check your bags and use metal detectors if necessary. "PCKC can check your bags and use metal detectors if the show organizers and our security team think it's necessary."
- Lockers: You can rent lockers to store your belongings. "Everyone needs to carry their stuff or put it in a locker—they'll have to pay for that."
Tips for First-Timers
- Plan Ahead: Download the Planet Comicon app to get the schedule and map. "Download the app, it's much better than the website."
- Bring Your Own Food and Water: It's expensive to buy food and drinks inside the convention. "Bring your own water in, it's way too expensive at the con."
- Wear Comfortable Shoes: The convention center is huge, and you'll be walking a lot. "Wear comfortable shoes, the food vendors outside usually seem better than the ones inside the convention center."
Parking and Transportation
- Parking: Parking can be expensive and hard to find. Consider using public transportation or parking further away and walking. "If you don’t mind a ride on the streetcar there is free parking at crown center on the weekend and you can ride the streetcar all the way to the convention center."
- Streetcar: The streetcar is a convenient option to get to the convention center. "We parked at City Market and took the streetcar, which was super convenient."
