Optimizing Event Drops

This upcoming event will be my first time playing during a drop/exchange event. Do we know if it's better to aim for this highest research power in a single sleep or do the number of spawns matter more and I should be trying to nap during the event?

Is it like the mew event where only the first sleep session counts for the event?
