Spanish citizenship through jus sanguinis
Hi, I'm trying to determine if my Australian wife is eligible for a Spanish passport.
Here are her father's details:
- Born in Spain in 1961.
- Moved to Australia in 1967 (age 6)
- Became an Australian citizen in 1976 (age 15)
- Became an adult in 1971 (age 18)
- Married in 1982 (age 21)
- Had his daughter (my wife) in 1987 (age 26)
Documents he has:
- Original Spanish birth certificate
- Australian passport
He never renounced his Spanish citizenship, so I'm trying to determine if he is still a Spanish citizen as that will determine if my wife is elgigible for a passport through jus sanguinis.
I've emailed the Spanish consulate in Sydney, however it's been 3 months and I have had no reply. I even went in person and they said to email and then sent me on my way (they have 100s of 1 star reviews), and the Canberra embassy is not willing to help since we are based in Sydney.
Thanks for your help.
