Should I apply for BOWP or wait?

I received an email from IRCC this morning that they have started processing my PNP backed PR (Non express entry) and requested biometric. My current work permit (closed) expires early October. How does it go from here? I’d really appreciate if someone can help with timelines based on recent experience. Should I apply for BOWP now or wait a couple of months and see how the processing progresses? If I apply for BOWP, I will also be extending my wife’s WP and my son’s Study Permit. It’s over $650 for all. So just trying to think twice before doing it. TIA for any help on this.
