The indignity of fatherhood - my son's request

Techniques/Plans

My son, 14, came to me today and said, "I'd like to do a carpentry project. Can you help?"

Of course I am all over this. I asked what the project was. He grabs a piece of paper and sketches it out...

"There's a piece of wood here, with a rough edge, and another here, with this edge, and down the middle we'd pour some epoxy of some kind...."

Apparently I will be assisting in making a river table. My apologies to the community for this played-out cliche. But I'm not going to tell my kid that they aren't cool anymore. What does his dad know about fashion, anyway?

Heretofore, I haven't done any research on an easy way to make these things. If anyone has a go-to set of techniques, I'd love to know about them.
