Why does it feel like more people are chasing money over meaning lately?

Lately, I’ve been feeling like more and more people are starting businesses primarily to make money.

I always thought the starting point for most ideas was something like wanting to help others, create something meaningful, or share value—and that money would follow as a result.

But now it feels like, for many people, money is the starting point instead.

Am I just seeing it wrong, or has something actually shifted?

What do you think drives this change?
