Hey guys, everything good? so, I was making my decklist for my harpie primite, and because I run bricks like the normal harpie lady and drillbeam, I ended with 45 cards.... so the question comes to my mind, Im a old school yugioh player, in the synchro era we always aim for that 40 sweet spot, but in those times, the decks doesnt have the consistency we have in this days, the dependence of generic searchers like sangan was pretty standar, pot of duality was a goated car in that era because gave the consistency

to skip 3 draws and the game was too slow, so you paid the cost of no special summon for make your setup for the next turn, handtraps wasnt a think in that moment, and the backrow was really heavy, you always aim to 40 because of that, and you also usually run 3 copies of upstart goblin to make that number more small. So now, we are in 2026, the decks in modern yugioh have a lot of searchees in its own archetype, we have a lots of different engines choice and techs, and without handtraps you cannot survive if you are going second, and we also have handtraps that are a MUST if you want to get a chance in this game, fuwalos x3, droll x2, imper x3, ash x3, all of this cards are a must in modern yugioh and you need to make space in your deck to run those copies if you wanna have some fun with this game, so, deck building is most limited that ever because you cannot choose to not play droll or fuwalos, or ash, because if you dont play those cards the chance of winning is very. low, also, you need to make space for board brakers like droplet, or going 1st cards like crossout and called by. because of all that, Im always playing a 42 cards deck (I never can make space for droll, so I splash the 2 copies at the end). and when I run bricks like the red eyes dragoon package (red eyes, dark magician and res eyes fusion) I choose to play 43 to have a less chance to draw the garnets, when I play Psy frame omega, I play 41 cards to avoid the draw of driver (the normal monster), and when I play fiendsmith, I also run 41 to avoid to draw fabled lurrie. So, what is your take in this, and which you think is the perfect/ideal number of cards for a deck in this days? 40? 42? or 43? let me read your opinion on this!

PD: The pic of duality is to give you flashbacks from 2012

Deck building, consistency and composition in current 2026, straigh 40, or 43? That is the question
