Is Japanese release of the Pet Sounds valuable?

Hi all! My best friend is obsessed with the Pet Sounds and I’ve been thinking of buying him a cd for a while. Instead of getting him a new cd, I really want to buy an old one necessarily in mono version for his collection. While searching for different ones I came across Japanese releases, which made me question if they are better/more valuable. I don’t know much about rarities of the Beach Boys cds/vinyls, so I would appreciate if someone could explain how can I identify which is the best to buy as a gift for someone who collects them :D
