Does it make sense for me to apply for Croatian citizenship?

Do I qualify?

Hi everyone!

My mother is Croatian. This year, my Croatian aunt and grandparents encouraged me to apply for Croatian citizenship, but after looking at the law, I'm not sure my application would likely succeed.

Here is my situation:

- My mother left Croatia in 1994, and so it is past the cutoff point of October 1991 for claiming ancestry through an émigré.

- I'm now 31 years old, and so past the 21 year old age limit to claim it through direct descendance.

- Growing up, my father was in the military and so we never lived close to any major Croatian diasporas or societies that could provide any kind of attestation that I'm part of the Croatian people. I also don't speak Croatian and only got the chance to visit Croatia once as a child (I've been again as an adult and am going back for a visit in a few weeks).

Despite these issues, would it still make sense for me to apply for citizenship or would I likely be denied? If it still makes sense, what would be the best avenue to apply through when it comes to the different options (Article 4, Article 5, Article 11)?

Thanks in advance for your input!
