Zions National park as we visit Vegas in May end

Hello All, wondering- how much its feasible to do hiking at Zions with younger daughter 8 year old and what permit/ticket required in advance, as plan to do a day trip (or its better to have a night stay at Zions).

context: Flying from Dallas to Las Vegas, first time visit to both. Planning to do in May end - 4 days. Will do rental car for Zions park visit
