My reel went viral but to the WRONG audience — how do I fix this?

Question

I create kids content (songs + brain breaks) targeted toward parents and teachers.

One of my reels recently started taking off (tens of thousands of views per day), but Instagram pushed it heavily to teenagers instead of my actual audience.

Now I’m seeing:

•	Teen comments across multiple videos

•	Some trolling / off-topic engagement

•	That same audience spilling into my other content

The problem is:

Even though the video is performing well, it’s the wrong type of engagement, and I’m worried it’s training my account in the wrong direction long-term.

Things I’ve tried:

•	Targeting parents/teachers in captions and on-screen text

•	Replying only to the right audience

•	Ignoring or hiding troll comments

•	Tagging relevant pages (education/autism/parent accounts)

•	Sharing in Facebook groups + DM outreach

Still seeing mostly teen traffic.

Main question:

Is there a way to “correct” the audience on a viral reel, or once Instagram picks an audience, is it basically locked in?

Also:

Should I just ride the views and focus on training the next posts instead?

Would really appreciate any insight from people who’ve dealt with this.
