Langdon's financial situation
What is Langdon's financial situation? I'm not familiar with physician salaries, though I know attendings make a significant amount more than residents (according to Google). Most have a notable amount of medical school debt.
In season 1, Langdon mentions (paraphrasing because I don't remember verbatim): 1) being too cheap to pay for movers when he helped his parents and hurt his back, 2) having two children, 3) buying a dog for the kids/ family, and 4) Abby wanting a luxury Birkin bag for her birthday (these typically start at $10,000 and can range up to $100,000).
In season 2, we know 1) He's been in rehab and that comes with a steep price, 2) He wasn't working during that 10 months, which means he wasn't earning any income, 3) He abstains from the betting pool and (I think) cites money as the reason, 4) He expresses a desire to pay for Louie's burial expenses, and 5) Retracts that sentiment after Dana calls him out for not checking with his wife first (and then pivots to the GoFundMe idea).
So, what do you think his financial situation is in season 1 and season 2? Do you think this will become a larger part of his story and the challenges he's facing?
For further discussion, what does it say about Abby (or their relationship) that she asked for a Birkin for her birthday? Does it indicate that she's status-oriented and materialistic? That they both are and he's trying to prove himself? That she's somewhat impulsive and reckless like Langdon? Does she feel unappreciated and neglected and feel like it's transactional proof of his love?
I'd love to hear your thoughts, from realistic, to how the writers are setting up the character and his storyline, to your head canons.
