I realized I’ve been trying to ‘repay’ the blessings in my life—and it was exhausting

Sharing: Personal Growth

I noticed something about myself recently that I didn’t expect.
This started as a reflection on Gratitude.

For most of my life, anytime something good happened—
an opportunity, support, even just a moment of peace—
I felt like I had to repay it somehow. I couldn't just let it be.

Like I needed to:

  • earn it
  • prove I deserved it
  • or balance it out afterward

Sometimes all three.

It felt responsible… but over time it just became exhausting.

Lately I’ve been questioning that pattern.

What if not everything given to you is asking to be paid back?

What if some things are meant just to be received?

I’ve been experimenting with… letting things land. Especially when things get difficult or challenging.

Not trying to prove anything.
Not trying to earn it twice.

Just receiving it fully—and letting that change how I show up.

Weirdly, that shift feels harder than doing more.

But also lighter.

Curious if anyone else has experienced this on their spiritual path?
That pressure to “repay” everything good in your life?
