S1 thoughts from a first-time watcher who passively absorbed the show through everybody else

Through being on Twitter at the time Succession was initially airing, I felt like I'd basically watched the show through clips, GIFs, and seeing/hearing the weekly discourse (kind of like Game of Thrones for people who didn't watch it). Since I (thought I) knew every major plot point, including how it ended, I thought I had a pretty good read of the show but since starting it this week and finishing season 1, some things have actually caught me off guard:

- I assumed Shiv wouldn't care about or like Tom AT ALL so I was surprised to see some genuine affection and to see her actually getting emotional (though not quite remorseful) about her thing with Nate

- I thought the reason why Kendall was so passionate about being in charge was because he was actually prepared to take up the role and be a competent leader - not the impression I'm getting so far

- Didn't know Greg was. Like That. I kind of assumed he'd start off quite normal and gradually become more self-serving over time but he makes as many moves as everybody else

- Roman never came off well in any of the scenes I saw so I assumed he'd have some redeeming features revealed in the show - instead he just seems a lot more damaged than I ever imagined and it makes me sad 😔

I've also enjoyed how much the show's genuinely made me laugh at loud at times, it balances out the bleaker moments really well. Looking forward to the next seasons to see how the plot points that I'm aware of come together, and actually get to know the characters a bit more
