Getting married in a month and my own mom seems disinterested
I’ve just been feeling a bit bummed leading up to my wedding because my own mom seems pretty disinterested in the whole thing but she’s also generally like this with me so it’s not out of the norm. I just thought my own mom would be excited to help me plan my wedding.
My fiancé and I have been together for 10 years and have two young kids together so we wanted to keep things very low pressure for us and our families. We’re doing a very small ceremony and then my dad and stepmom offered to pay for a private space at a restaurant for a celebratory dinner with our family and close friends. My dad, stepmom, and future MIL have been very excited and helping me plan but it’s been so different with my mom.
The first time she talked to me about it on the phone after I told her we had officially set a date, she just starting going on about how she’s going to be uncomfortable around my dad and his side of the family (they’ve been divorced for a long time now).
Then she didn’t bring it up for a while until she brought up how she assumed she’d stay at my house. I told her it would be very preferable for her to get an Airbnb as our house is very small and everyone coming from out of town has gotten an Airbnb. A month later she asked me to send her links to airbnbs close to me. Then just a few days ago she texted me that all of the Airbnbs were expensive and if she, my grandma, and my brother could stay at my MILs house. I told her that my MIL did not have the space to host them all and sent more links to cheaper Airbnbs and said these seemed very reasonable especially split between three people. (Side note that I know the three of them are not in a bad financial place and the ones I sent would be $150 per person for the whole week). She just responded to my text saying that she thought my MIL had space. I just called her to explain again and she said she’d look into the Airbnbs more.
I want to be helpful and accommodating since my side of the family is having to travel to be here, but I just feel like it’s reasonable to expect that she can figure out her own travel plans when I work full time, have two young kids, and am trying to plan this wedding. And on top of that, I just feel really sad that she’s not really sharing any happiness or excitement with me or interested in helping me plan.
